« on: May 08, 2008, 09:27 »
Hi Folks
in my tray of pea seedlings some of them have gone thin at the bottom and fallen over,
is this "Damping Off" ? if so is there anything I can do
they were in a mini greenhouse but I have put them outside in a sheltered place now

Could very well be damping off, which is actually a soil fungus from too humid and too warm/cool conditions. Peas really don't like warm temps. Its okay to start them off in a propogator, but once sprouted, they should immediately go cooler, and outside asap. Suggest you direct seed outside now and you can still get a good crop. Sounds damping off all right. These moulds form on running surface water most easily, let the soil dry and water slowly and hope for not spreading further, could also lift out affected area with soil and all and bin.

Thanks for the info

they were growing in RootTrainers so I have dumped the contents of the cells with dead peas in and planted the rest out

so they now have two chances, either they grow or they dont, hopefully they will as I like peas

I never molly-coddle peas.

Trench.

Throw in.

Cover in trench.

Net.

Support.

Pick.

Eat.

Maybe cook one or two!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
