can anyone recommend onion / shallot varieties suitable for pickled onions ? or is it just as simple as using any old type and pulling when still small ?
any help for this clueless individual   :roll:  greatly welcomed  :lol:

I posted on here somewhre yesters about pickling onion seed

I got mine from Marshalls seed catalogue "brown pickling onions"  Lovely they are too and I'll be sowing mine any day now.

My friend gave me a jar of pickled onions she had done, I thanked her and thought ¨I´ll never eat them, I don´t like them¨ anyway I thought I would give them a try..... I ate the whole jar in a week, they were really lovely :D

We have bought some seeds off of ebay this year from a seller called sheilas_seeds, they seem to have all come up but will have to wait and see how they turn out.
Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's empty, and so is your head.

we got  de barletta seeds from lidl.we were told they were pickling onions ,hope they are cos thats the only reason im growing them

I agree, pickled shallots are lovely  :D

I pickled mine and they were ok but not as good as Garners  :roll:

I'm gonna pop some homegrown jalepenos in with my silverskins this year   :D
Was thinking of trying them in rice vinegar too... anyone tried that?
