Suggestions for a cheap alternative to "proper" dyes abound. Most are pretty vague about what to use (e.g. "I used blue food dye": but what, where, how much?).

Anyone used a DIY alternative with success? What, where from, how much?

Hadn't come across this idea before and sound as if it could be useful.  We've got food colouring from any supermarket.  I'm assuming it don't matter if the colour is fugitive
