duff slug bait
« on: May 10, 2017, 15:59 »
Is the UK the same as down here in France we can no longer get the blue slug pellets instead we get a white pellet which while animal and bird friendly is also totally ineffective and the slugs ignore... and its not cheap either!

No, standard and organic blue pellets are widely available.

Unfortunately the dark blue metaldehyde pellets are still for sale here. It is a nasty poison, stays in the soil for ages and gets into our water.

We are gradually getting better and choosing the products containing ferric phosphate which still kill slugs but not birds, wild animals, pets and occasionally people

I try to grow food which is good to eat and free from pests if that involve using chemicals so be it. If we all had to do without aids to gardening the farmers would be charging a fortune for what the could produce. I am not about to apologise for my standards and ethics if I was I would not be eating any meat products whatsoever ... and I like eating all forms of meat products except maybe tripe :)  but I would eat it if I was hungry enough. While I am on my box anybody who owns a motor vehicle of any sort don't bother to lecture about ethics and the environment you are doing far more harm than a few slug pellets, copper fungicide and some insecticides could ever do.

Hey Hey. each to his own. Let's settle down lads. As it happens I don't use any pellets at all, beer is the answer, (it usually is, lol).

I'll drink to that... after I am done in the garden :)
