    I've got slug problems with raised beds and was going to buy some cheap beer to use as bait in the traps and bury them. Not sure as to wether put the traps in the raised beds themselves as thought that might attract the slugs into the beds where they might eat my plants on the way to the traps or to place the traps inbetween the raised beds?? Suppose I'll need the pathways clear to get up and down with the wheelbarrow etc. What do other people do for killing slugs without using pellets?

I would set them in your raised beds,  you want to catch the divvils that are there and not attract more!

I don't know what design of slug trap you have but "Beer is best"  stale beer even better.  If you have the type you sink into the soil, leave the lip protruding above the ground about one inch (don't ask what mm or cm)!   This is so ground beetles which are benificial to the garden don't fall in and drown.

I've heard that copper strips all the way round the top of the bed is a repellant as well.  Sorry, I know it's not liquid but is all I can offer.

i have used big yoghurt pots sunk into the ground and filled with beer - i have to say it worked realy well

Once upon a time I thought that also. But then someone mentioned cheap soft (fizzy) drink to me and I tried that. I found it works just as well as beer and is cheaper.

What actually happens to the slugs mattwragg94?  Do they go for the beer and drown in it?  Also how many pots do you have?

They normally climb out three or four times to go to the toilet before they finally succumb ! ! !  

Reminds me of a recipe the memsahib and I made.   "Pears in port",  it only needed half a dozen tablespoons of port,  the rest we drank.                    Cheers,     Tony.

I originally fancied the copper tape round the top of beds but would cost far too much to do all my beds. Might try the beer and soft drinks and see what results I get.
