Tenacious Queen Wasp
« on: May 15, 2014, 18:34 »
I have a regular visitor to my hut which has been making attempts at building a nest.

So far I have been able to remove the small nests before the wasps have been able to develop.

I do not wish it any harm and don't want to use any insecticide to kill it, but does anyone have any advice about deterring it from returning and re-building a nest?

Thanks!

does it go back to the same place every time?

Can you put something in the way so it will look somewhere else?

I wonder if you made it smell different, it might not like it. Jeyes or wood preserver or if you have a fly or air freshener spray, spray the wood behind the nest site. Might put it off.

Hi

Wasps are extremely territorial and will not build their nest close to another colony's. Therefore, hanging a fake wasps' nest or two is a great way to deter them. You can purchase fake nests at gardening centers and hardware stores (many of which are beautifully designed) but you can have just as much success by hanging a brown paper bag!
