Wasp nest as a deterrent
« on: October 29, 2016, 20:21 »
Has anyone had any success using artificial wasp nests as a deterrent from wasps eating your fruit, I have seen these for sale and Monty Don used one to keep them from his grapes, but is it effective?

Very effective. I used one in my polytunnel to protect my grapes.

Any idea how they would stand up to being used outside? My lad's absolutely petrified by wasps and goes into a blind panic whenever he sees one.

I expect that one wouldn't stop wasps coming into the garden but it might persuade them to move on a bit quicker and save us some broken crockery!

Never tried one outdoors, but they are cheap enough to risk trying it

We have one hanging in the roof.

When we saw a swarm collecting around the eaves, I hung one up near the hole where they can get in, and kept the light on up there all night!

One long squirt of Raid, and we didn't see another wasp all summer!

We also hang one from the outside umbrella, and it seems to work, but not always...

Thanks for your replies. Will order some extra and give it a go.
