Moved almost my entire crop of garlic (30 bulbs).  When I planted them they were on the edge of the allotment, but now I have extended it they were left looking a bit silly.  Also, with all the topsoil I have added, they were in a valley because I didn't want to bury them.  So now the valley is filled in.

Did quite a bit of weeding, mostly buttercups, put a few more barrowloads of topsoil on, levelled it around and dug out some new little paths.  Put up a cloche to warm/dry the soil a bit ready for sowing next week.

Wrecked the bunnies' plan to build a new residence in the hedgebank, for now...

took a couple more bags of seed potatoes up to the greenhouse at the lotty, tried to do a bit more digging, but too much like hard work from last nights rain, planning on doing some tomorrow, but guess what, more rain forecast  >:(

refelted my shed roof for the second time this "spring" and then painted the shed. There was also some swearing  :nowink:
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

Dug first early trench, put first earlys in and covered them with 1 year old manure and the soil dug out of the trench.
second earlys next, I had them covered with the bubble wrap in the greenhouse and last night the temps went down to -2.6.
It did not touch the spuds (I hope) but I think they are better in the ground.

Stuck in handful of early Charlottes snug under a pile of strawy manure, dug and weeded over the parsnip bed ready, and the roots bed and raked to 'a fine tilth'  :tongue2: ..and yes that was a kids rake I used! I'm 5ft  :D

This splash of sunshine makes it very tempting to consider putting in early potatoes but we're not out of the frost zone yet. I managed to resist...

....instead I pruned two apple trees and a pear tree. Getting towards the late end of when it should be done but had to wait for the grass the dry out enough to stop the steps sinking into the lawn.

(Plenty of brilliant perches for the aviary!)

Just a bit of fettling up after yesterday... wanged in two metposts for the tayberry and blackberry, which will also have hooks on for coats and bags.  Rearranged the much shorter posts I inherited, including the ones holding up my weldmesh cane store, and transplanted some broad beans which thus found themselves in my new "utility" area.  Observed many bunny prints and put a weldmesh cloche over where I hope the asparagus might come up if it hasn't died over winter or from having a couple of inches of topsoil on top... and finally tried out my new soil thermometer which says soil temp is 6 degrees and horse muck in the dalek is nearly 11 degrees!

And back in time for second breakfast!

managed 2 hours this morning before the rain really started

Pulled up all the pencil thin leeks in 1 bed, they were looking awful where something had nibbled them in autumn, I'll need that bed in a few weeks and I've eaten all the onions

Dug up the last of the parsnips, dug over that bed and dumped some muck on it, will need a bit more tlc To the edges at some point as the couch grass is invading.

Could do with a dry week so I can really get digging

Managed to finish sowing my broad beans, tidy up my garlic which Is quite big now and plant some of my onion sets. Got bored of that so stopped after a while - it is my least favourite job! I also harvested a couple of cabbages and some PSB

Slightly 'jaded' after yesterday's wedding festivities. Gentle seed sowing only today.
