Hugh F W has a program starting on Chanel 4 at 9pm on Monday next week and is continued on Tuesday and Wednesday. He is going to hilight the cruelty suffered by chickens and try and encourage free range instead
Happiest in the countryside.

Thanks for reminding me i'd seen an ad for that and intended to watch it but forgotten (drink induced short term memory loss).  I'll have to set a reminder on my computer.

Thanks for posting this Viv - Channel 4 are putting up what promises to be a really interesting series.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 9pm on C4 Hugh will be showing us where the chickens and eggs really come from. C4 says "Hugh, a committed free-range enthusiast, investigates intensive chicken farming, and is driven to quite astonishing lengths to demonstrate what he strongly believes is the cruelty involved."

Then, on Thursday 10 th January at 9pm The Truth About Food is shown, journalist, Jane Moore investigates the truth behind food labelling and the excuses we tell ourselves that are keeping us the most obese nation in Europe.

On Friday, again at 9pm, Jamie’s Fowl Dinners - In a revealing new programme, Jamie Oliver hosts a gala dinner to dramatically demonstrate the reality of how chickens live and die to put food on our plates.

If you care about what you put on your plate and especially if you care about how we treat animals, these sound like must watch programmes.

Hugh’s Chicken Run - 7, 8 & 9 Jan, 9pm
The Truth About Food - 10 Jan, 9pm
Jamie’s Fowl Dinners - 11 Jan, 9pm

That is good - one convert at least :)

I'd like to know why Channel 4 can put on what are 'crusading' programmes like this but the BBC limits us to ready, steady cook and Nigella gastro prorn.

Isn't it about time our licence fee was a bit better?

I'll second that.  It seems that Auntie (thats the beeb not you aunt sally) produces more what I term "Cabbage TV" than any other station these days.  Most of which is purile & unwatchable.

Am I the only person here interested in Kill it Cook it Eat it?

10:30 pm BBC3
Kill It, Cook It, Eat It
Kid Goat: Series following the journey of different farm animals from the pasture to the plate. This edition features eight goats aged from 12 to 20 weeks. Some upsetting scenes.

Have your dinner early... :(

I watched the pig KI-CI-EI last night.  A very interesting program,  made all the more genuine by having a live audience giving their opinions.

I'll be watching the rest of the series.

Both the programmes mentioned in your posts are brilliant.  We used to eat a couple of cheap chickens a month, until I acquired my own for the garden (not to eat  ).  I keep mine just for eggs and intellectual company lol.  Now we just buy one free range chicken a month - it's surprising how far the meat will go.

As for the cook it, kill it, eat it programme, I must admit I did giggle when one of the blokes said he wasn't going to try any of the cooked goat meat because "it might have been the little brown one that looked me in the eye".  Bless im
