Courgette problems
« on: August 01, 2013, 22:34 »
Corgettee were doing really well.  We had two days of very heavy rain and they look like they have mildew.  Leaves have white on.  Pumpkins also have the same problem.  I have read about the milk solution and wonder if this works.

Personally I never worry about it. Still get plenty of courgettes from my plants even when they appear mildewy.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

They should grow through just fine, CPC. I often get the ugliest leaves out of the way anyway, as there will always be a marrow lurking underneath...

Agree with Growster - take off any manky old leaves and the worst of the mildewed ones.

That will help by improving the air circulation and reduce the reservoir of spores to add to the infection.

You are unlucky to find it this early in the year, it usually happens more towards September here when the plants are already starting to weaken anyway. Give the plants a boost with a liquid feed and try to avoid wetting the leaves.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

plus, I know it's rained  ;) - but make sure the roots are moist.
It's surprising how dry they can be under all the foliage, and dry roots increase the risk of getting mildew.
