Is there anything I can plant in between my sweetcorn plants which will not hinder their development? I'm limited on space so these would have to in the 18 inch gap between each plant.

Sweetcorn are hungry plants and I don't think it's a good idiea to plant anything between them.

Would lettuce be any good? Just an idea the shade wouldn't bother them.

I think growing anything in the block is a bad idea.  It won't be long before the sweetcorn causes a lot of shade.  You also have to make sure you can get into the patch to check for cob ripeness and harvest them.

If you really want to plant squash then place them outside your sweetcorn block and encourage them to grow in.

interesting, I thought underplanting sweet corn with squash was a pretty standard thing to do. Not going to move them now, I've spaced them out enough I think and I'll feed heavily and see how I get on.

I plant my courgettes and squash outside the sweetcorn block as Aunty suggests.

They have similar growing needs, and the squash can go round the outside in a big circle.

As mentioned, plant the squash, pumpkins, etc, on the outside of the block and let them scramble through the corn. The large leaves of the squash will shade the soil around the corn, which have shallow roots, meaning less wateris lost through evaporation.

3 sisters is Corn, Beans and Squash.

Mainly used in areas with little rain or water.

Don't know where you'd put the squash though.

Outside seems to be what people are suggesting.
