sowed a 9" pot thinly a week ago..no sign yet obviosly..next sowing will be into seedbed if ever it warms up a bit!!

Question , if i sow leeks now  in large trays how larger do you leave to grow before planting out

When you say you "GROW" your leeks in a cat litter tray.

Is that through to harvest, or just to start them off?

Noddy question :  I misread the recommended seed depth and sowed about an inch down. Have I scuppered them or are they likely to make it up the extra 1/2 inch? No sign of them so far..

An inch is quite a depth but it will depend upon the material you have covered them with, the temperature and how moist they are.

Personally, to be on the safe side (as I'm cautious by nature - usually), I think I'd sow some more in a new tray as a back up... and leave the first lot to see if they make it.

Yup, Paul Plots has the answer, and for the cost of another packet of sseds, you'll be fine!

(Check how much you pay for leeks in your local shop, and say 'Oh hellfire' - we do!)

And if the others actually come up, then make gallons of soup next year!

Thanks! I only had 25 seeds, I took a pinch from the pass the parcel just to see what growing leeks would be like. Am annoyed at myself for getting it wrong, but then the seeds are cheap in the Morrison's near work.

Get on down to Morrisssons....... if you end up with loads of leeks you can always find someone to do swaps with - they are a brilliant over-wintering crop & I think their flavour improves once they've had a winter frost on them.
