I don't know about anyone else but I am so sick of buying sweaty mushrooms in plastic punnets wrapped in clingfilm (whatever happened to paper bags???). We don't have anywhere close by that we can buy them loose and I use quite a few for stews, curries etc. Are they easy to grow and is it true that they stink?

I grew some oyster mushrooms once from a kit and they were fine and didn't smell at all.  They were grown in sterilised straw so I think the ones you heard about must have been grown with a medium that included manure of some sort. 
Kits are usually available on ebay or this company, which also sell spore for growing outside (sounds more like the type of muchrooms you may be after).

I've grown them from an Aldi kit once, just to see how it went. No smell at all, it gave a gradual crop and for the price - equivalent to about 4 supermarket punnets - I got about the same number of mushrooms back. :)

I buy mushroom in a large box from tresco, take them out, slice them and freeze in a plastic bag. They keep perfectly, easy to take out a handful as I need them and it really enhances the flavour. I've just thrown some into a pan of sphagbol.  :)
