Has anyone tried growing their own mushrooms,

I've seen various products on the market,

spawned logs, mini hay bails etc.

has anyone tried these.

what do you reccomend

Hmmmmm mushrooms ma favourite,what i have done is go to the mushroom farm and buy there spent mushroom compost for 50 p a bag and put them some where dark and warm and reap the rewards weeks after,i did years ago buy a kit in bucket form but had very little luck.

i was given a mushroom growing kit for Christmas but i didn't have very good luck. i think i tried them when it was to cold.

Actually, I've hard from a few people that those kits aren't very good, but I don't know if we've got amuchroom farm around here, must look in yellow pages!!!!!!

I tried a kit too - seemed like a lot of fussing about for around a pound of mushrooms so we won't be trying again,

Try the local Shaw Trust, ours runs a mushroom farm so will give them a ring later to see if they can offer anything,

if they do I'll let you know and i'll pick up an extra few bags

Got  a packet of the little white mushroom 'pellets'. Packet says 'sow in straw or horse manure'. Have neither, so i've sown in two wooden trays, one in wood chippings and potting compost, the other in dried straw/grass. You have to keep them cool, damp and dark, which in recent weather has meant spraying both trays with a mister virtually every day. Slowly you see the pellets (about 7mm x 3mm) send out a kind of white mould around themselves. No mushrooms yet, 5 weeks on. Seems a lot of effort, and not sure they're staying cool enough in my anderson shelter tool shed. Maybe that's why, in nature, autumn is mushroom season. lot of effort at a time of year when other plants are very demanding. Am now trying to ignore them until September.

We did when I was a kid, but I didn't like Mushrooms then.
We also used to go mushroom picking late at night.
