A couple of days ago, our hen Greyie caught a small rat. She was pecking it & dragging it around the run until my other half took the dead rat from her.

Greyie seems fine, though we are concerned whether she could catch anything or whether any harm could come to us from eating her eggs over the next few days?

Any advice would be appreciated

Hens will eat all sorts of wildlife given the chance, the main thing to consider with things like rats is wether she has caught a healthy rat if yes probably no problem , or was the rat already ill or dead from the effects of poison if this may be the case it would be more worrying.

Also if it was a young rat then there will be more and the rats could cause probs for the chooks.

Well done Greyie but you did right to take it off her. Better safe than sorry. My hens had a rat in their netting corale once and they were scared to death of it.  They huddled together as far away from it as they could get.

It sounds as though this was a young rat which is probably why the hen was not so scared of it. If there is one rat there will be others, I'm afraid. You may need to do some detective work,  find where their runs are and do some vermin control
