plugged the hose onto each drip feed system for the strawberries to clear the nozzles, then realised I can fill the container using the hose by plugging it into the feed with a connector, drip feed system all ready for later when the sun drops.
Grendel, now nice and cool indoors, glad I did the plot early.

Popped down after work to water the seedlings etc and shocked at how much everything has grown - courgettes flowered and everything else shooting up! They obviously love the sun we have had this week!

Planted out some cabbages and minipop sweetcorn.

Spotted some parsley seedlings that have finally appeared.

Did some overdue clearing of the cut flower border in plot 39 which was full of couch and creeping buttercup.  I then planted some plants I had grown of dahlias, nigella, cornflower, osteospurmum and gladioli.

I then started stringing the wire on my Munty frame.

The children and I planted up two Ferline tomatoes outside.

Yesterday made the first visit for a week (holiday) only to find the pigeons had helped them selves to the tops of my mange tout, by sitting their fat backsides on the top of their support frame. Made a quick netting cover held up with canes, bottles and cable ties.

Cut a huge bunch of asparagus, squashed a few asparagus beetles, pulled up lots of nice radishes and cut some rhubarb

Went back today to give the tomatoes in the mini tunnel a good soak

Got Ben to do a the last bit of digging in John's 'brassica house' as I have managed to break my little toe trying not to stand on the cat last night! ::) Instead of booting her, I booted the architrave around the door! ::) ::)

I then seived all the soil in there down to a fine tilth and sowed 2 rows of swede 'Gowrie', 2 rows of carrots 'Amsterdam Forcing' and 2 rows of beetroot 'Choggia' - still have a little room in there - need to give that some thought. ???

Pulled out a mass of creeping buttercup from John's orchard patch - it will need to be dug out at some point, but it is looking better.

Watered Bryan's plot (he is in Oz on holiday) then borrowed his hose (I don't have one) and gave my plot a good soaking too - won't need to do that for ages now!

Took 3 bags of weeds to the Recycling Centre.

Came home and planted up 3 mint plants - apple mint, ginger mint and grapefruit mint and potted up 12 of my Cape Gooseberry's into their final pots in the greenhouse.

Finished with some watering at home - pooped now

Had a month away after falling and hurting my leg pretty badly. I had cleared the plot in winter...

I nearly cried :(

But..

I got on with it...

Hoping to clear similar size today...

today I was on the way by 7.30, arrived and weeded a whole bucket full from my previously weeded beds, alternated between this and cutting the grass on the other path, got this all done including the nettles round the artichokes, then started on the strawberry bed, dug a small section, then went through and pulled all the tall stuff, I found if you grab about 6" up, then the grassy weeds come up, leaving the strawberries untouched underneath.

Still making preparations for getting the plot on Saturday.

I rounded up all my old tools from various parts of the garage - will sharpen those that need it tomorrow. Out of interest, my dibber belonged to my dad and my grandad, and I reckon it could easily be 100 years old!

I walked past the site and had a good rummage around the nearby hedges to see what is growing there - I am guessing the biggest pest nearby is the ground elder. Also, there are a few places where the perimeter fence doesn't go all the way to the ground, so nowhere near rabbit proof.

I also re-drew the plan for my plot for about the 20th time.
Breaking new ground.............literally!

Hand weeded strawberries, onions, rhubarb and turned compost

.oh yeah and watered....
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

planted out three courgettes. Watered, weeded, tied in...generally faffed about for a couple of hours.  Its amazing how the time passes..

Noticed that three of my winter onions had grown a flower stalk, first ones this year

Transported sweetcorn plants up to plot, although didn't get time to plant.

Finally got munty frame strung up ready for beans to grow up (come on beans!).  I planted a few very tiny cauliflower plants under it to grow up slowly over the coming months.

I also put up an X frame for the Blauhilde climbing french beans.
