Had a day off so I put a row of Pentland Javelins in. The forecast was for "flurries", there was a blizzard. Entertained a local cat with my digging though.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Me and my son finished planting the potatoes in pots and put them in the greenhouse.

We also took some compost from one of our many darleks, we filled 2 bags and it looks real good stuff about 13 months of rotting chicken litter.

Problem is now which plants do i like most to give it too  :)

I dug another 3 x 17 ft - getting there slowly but surely. Dug out any re-emerging stubborn weeds from the area I've alredy cleared.

Hoed around the garlic, it seems to have spouted nicely but as I've never grown it before I've no idea what it's 'supposed' to look like  Exciting stuff!

Put a couple of paths in with weed control fabric and bark chippings.

That wind was bitter, thank god the digging and hoeing kept me warm! (well that and my 2 coats, hat, gloves....)

Put in the Jerusalem artichokes ( all 6) which were beginning to "chit" they were so bored of waiting!) and the first 6 earlies ( they were the most advanced chittings)!!

was going to put my main crop in today bit too cold for me so had to be content with potting on some sprouts and sow a few more cabbages :D

Hubby collected 2 new compost bins (pallet type affairs but sturdier), and then put some tarp over part of the new plot to hopefully kill off some of the weeds!

Sowed two rows (couple of hundred seeds) of parsnips, planted 200 onion sets and sorted out the strawberry bed.

Planted Pentland Javelin Potatoes about 6 inches deep. Also planted Hispi Cabbage, All Year Round Cauli, The Sutton Broad Bean seedlings, all under mini cloches until the frosts are gone.  Put in Kinghorn Wax Drawf Beans and Onward and Sugar Snap Peas. These have been fleeced.  Then resowed Beetroot Crimson Globe and Purple Top Milan Turnip Seeds as the others never came up. Then sowed 3 rows of Carrot Flyaway and 3 rows of Gladiator Parnips.

It was good to sow and plant something. I'd got a bit fed up of the digging etc.

Planted my Onion sets, I'm exceptionally busy the next 4 weeks so it was now or never and it happened to be a glorious day! Also planted 4 more rows of Broad Beans. Put 2 rows in about 6 weeks ago, checked them today as no signs yet but they are just biding their time, well rooted.

I wanted to be on the plot today but didn't escape until 3:30pm after a busy morning - have to do dinner tonight as our PA has a cold (and the sun's out).

Better luck tomorrow perhaps.
