Finally notified of a new allotment plot at my site of choice two days ago after a 5 year wait!!. Treated myself to a cordless flymo strimmer, charged up the battery and set off to said new plot ready to take on overgrown hillocks of grass etc......battery died after 15 minutes :(....it'll keep the grass paths between plots cut nicely during the summer but not enough oomph for couch grass and stubbron tussocks so I may have to spend more money on a petrol brushcutter/strimmer....still way too excited though :) Can't stop grinning :)))))))

My cordless strimmer only lasts 15 minutes, but luckily I have 2 spare batteries (belong to our cordless drill) and with the 3 they last long enough to strim around the shed, greenhouse and the chicken run.  Actually thanks for reminding me that I need to go and put them on charge, the grass is getting a bit too long.

quick trip today to the other plot, took half an hour to rotavate the whole plot (2nd pass) and another half hour to plant 2 rows of potatoes and 2 rows of onions.

Running late as always.

Into pots in the greenhouse today - Broadbeans and mixed salad leaves.
Into the propagator - 6 types of chilli pepper and some tomatillos.

Had a walk to the plot at dinner time, still under snow. Had a look in on my neighbours chickens and walked home again. Getting very frustrated now!

Not on the plot by I helped Mr S assemble the 2 new planters he has made me for the patio. I've planted the brown turkey fig in one & intend them for all edible plants as they are by the kitchen door. I'm thinking of salad leaves, radish, baby beetroot, small carrots.
Any other suggestions gratefully received. I've already got a herb bed on the opposite side.

Hi Snowdrops,

Maybe some baby leeks to pick like spring onions, like Little Nipper?

Bought and delivered to plot 6 bags of multi-compost and a bag of 6x, which I have never used before but told that is good.
Sowed 2 types of self-blanching celery, chives, mint and red florence onions.
Hoping the sunnier weather continues and warms up the soil!!!!

not up the plot but I took the rotovator to the front garden this morning, raked over after and then trimmed the grass and border to the edge of the path, once it warms up enough I will go out and weed. we even had a few flakes of snow here earlier.

Took the cover off the bed that is going to be potatoes to have a feel whether it is is warm enough for them. But I couldn't tell, felt cold to me, but then my hands were warm so   I haven't got a soil thermometer, I wonder if a beer thermometer would do, my friend's meat thermometer worked for him  ;)
