I took the plunge and put the spuds in, though I've kept a few maincrop back just in case. They'll go in the garden if all goes right, but not until my clay soil warms up a bit more.

The soil on the plot is nice and light and well draining, and I've put them in deep. The soil feels a lot warmer a foot or so down.

There was this big yellow thing in the sky too. I'm sure it was watching us.

I put my spuds in today too, deep as well.  Also sowed broad beans under one of them mini poly tunnel things, worked for me in the past and the old lady who let me share her shed has planted out broad beans, under no protection so I think I should be alright.

Yesterday I had a whole hour on the plot  5 hours would have been nicer but 1 was better than none.

Lifted the last leeks, dug their patch over and then started forking over the ground around the shed - it usually is warmer in that particular spot.

Potaotes in? Good for you!! Mine are ready but the ground isn't... not quite. I'm hoping our old Howard with spring to life again so I can rotovate the whole 1.5 plots and get cracking. Tomorrow, if all goes to plan, I should get a nice long break for plot visiting. Live in hope.

The broadbeans will be fine... once they get going.

Happy Easter gardening everyone!!

Things are starting to move here at last  :D

Planted out module sown peas, mangetout and broad beans as well as the first and second early potatoes.

Added some rock dust to the soil in these beds, as there has been so much rain in the last few months. Nice dose of well rotted manure for the potatoes too.

Hoping not to be too achy and plant the maincrop potatoes tomorrow

Just came back from planting my broad beans they were busting out of their paper pots.

cloched the ground a few days ago and its lovely and warm, put in just under 100 and put the cloches back on them with the ends open.

The wife asked what i been doing up there and said " I dont think i like broad beans that much"

After nearly spitting my coffee out I thought to myself " say nothing is best"

Early shallots are through under the netting for a little protection, but looks as tho the cold has had them for they are very yellow.

Gentle hoe in between the garlic and the new garlic i bought is suffering but the seed of my own " 4th year" early purple i think , is flying.

Amazing, we got some sun yesterday! Although weirdly there was some snow at the same time... My new herb garden went out under cloche for a few days to not shock the plants as they've been indoors, plus some strawberries, weeded and dug over the beds waiting for everything else, turned my compost which for some reason won't heat up, tidied up the paths with fresh woodchip. All in all a very successful afternoon!

Sowed, Durham early cabbage, white cabbage, romanescu and some sweet pea's. weeded around the over wintering onion's, garlic, cabbage and cauli's. Watered the onion's shallot's and garlic in the greenhouse (waiting to go in).  Leek's in the greenhouse are looking promising.

Built a raised bed, I now have two of them! I just need to get the compost to fill them up, I reckon I'm going to need around 2 tons in all and I will need to source a reasonable local supplier.

Covered one of the raised beds with roofing felt and old lino in an attempt to suppress weeds and warm the soil. I'm going to put onions sets and (when they germinate) leeks in that one.

Planning to plant potatoes in around 2 weeks, when I hope the weather conditions will have warmed a bit more.

Barrowed a lot of wood chip to top up the paths on one side of the plot

Sowed radishes and lots of flowers

Lottie still covered in snow.  :(

Watered last year's crysanths in the greenhouse (still too puny for me to strike any cuttings), plus the sweet peas, which are coming on well and really need to go in the ground soon... But at the moment, no chance!!

All my veg are still in modules in the house...
