Put a new frame and door on the poly tunnel, potted on the lollo rosso i got from Aldi, sowed the longbow leek's and watered the onion's, garlic and leeks in the greenhouse. still too wet to plant them. came home and sprayed the potatoe's with a dilute seaweed feed. They are looking good but the ground need's to dry out fast.

We actually had a few hours of sunshine this morning so I spent it shifting barrow loads of manure. This was the manure we were supposed to get in Dec but randomly turned up at the lottie yesterday! It was actually quite pleasant in the sun!

one of the old timers at the plot who I was chatting to had also measured his soil temperature today - also 4 degrees, wont be planting just yet then.

Got there for a whole 2 hours!

Lifted the last of the leeks - whoppers they are too but with no sign of a tough central flower stalk so the cooler cold weather has had one thing in its favour.

Did a little more digging and forking through discovering a few surviving gladioli corms - saved to be replanted with the replacements.

Belted home again... a little later than intended but it was sooo nice to get out.

My staging bench (made kindly by my dad) is now in my gh .... moved everything around and put the cover on a mini gh in the big gh ..... it has to be better than nothing.  Although my all year round lettuce and little gems have started to peep through .... and the peas have started to come alive (had a little look)! no sign of leeks, cauliflowers or parsnips though!

Put broad bean seedlings in a sheltered place outside to begin hardening off. Also sowed onion sets in modules and left them in same spot. Also had a wander around garden, snow half gone!

Fully prepared one (of three) beds, half prepared another, dug up 3 leeks for dinner.  Met a nice old lady who's letting me store some stuff in her shed.  Took 2 barrow loads of rotted cow manure to my plot.

Doesn't sound like much but in shattered now.

Put woodchips down for the paths I'd made yesterday.

Now complete , just have to sort out the beds .

Continued to move topsoil from the back garden to the front which is now finished. Then continued to break up the hardcore and bag it up ready for the tip. Might get the back garden revamp finished this weekend.

Rebuilt the greenhouse - according to other residents it will survive a nuclear blast!. But the shallots/onions are on strike under their cloches

It was a sunny day! :) with occasional snow flurries  >:( , but that icy wind has dropped at last.  So I made a start on my hugelkultur bed.  Got the trench dug, logs in, the twigs and leaves, and some semi-rotted compost.  I will finish on the next fine day, assuming there is one

I put my potatoes in today and on the way home the gritters were out on the road  never mind they are tucked up 6inches down, its not like they will get frost on them.

Lovely sunny day here today.  Spent the morning cutting brambles which were beginning to take over the back of the plot.  A lovely bonfire to get rid of them.  Hands are cut to threads now even through the thorn proof gloves but at least that is one job out of the way for this year.
