I think it is a case of look before you buy.  Hey, there is a statement of the blindingly obvious!   :D  But I have seen bashed and sprouting pots in the bags - and lovely seed spuds.  It isnt their main business and they dont keep them well - but if you get them fresh in, I've had some good PJ's and maris peer off them.

You're welcome SUTTY1, just happened to stumble on it whilst looking for a local nursery for Gleavo.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

According to pounlands website you get 8 seed pots for a quid. been & queued pots are 3.99 for 30 or 2 bags for 6 quid. Garden centres near me are also 3.99 for 30 seed pots so is pounland that cheap? OK if you only want a small amount but i would be worried how they had been handled/stored by staff etc.

Thanks for all the info - will be there at Goredale - just a stones throw and looks great. Big thanks to DD.

Going to try a bag from poundland as an experiment. Like I said, first year plot-holding so everything's an experiment. Getting a free bag of seed pots from Kings as part of ordering all my seeds from them through the allotment society so nothing to lose.

Thanks again will keep you posted.

i popped into poundland today and there are only 8 potatoes in the bag, so you may aswell go to a proper garden centre or spud supplier and get qualty spuds. poundlands maybe ok however your still gonna spend 3-4 quid getting the amount you want

I only grow a few earlies, so the small quantity is best for me...........last year they were £1and a bit for 5 potatoes in Wilko, so poundland were cheaper and the quality was as good as Wilko..........it depends what you need ;)

I'm thinking of heading to Dundry Nurseries' Potato Event next weekend because they have many varieties available singly.

I've moved onto a new allotment and want to plant up a fair bit with potatoes to help break up some ground. I would like to try out different varieties so I can find out what I like and what grows best in the new plot.
