poundland seed potatoes
« on: January 10, 2011, 00:53 »
They've got them in stock apparently. First year plotholder. Got some seed pots on the way from Kings but want more.

With Poundland is it cost over quality or are their seed potatoes ok?

Should I pay the extra £3 for quality or are they all same?

Wouldn't buy them yet anyway as seems to early to me but do any plotholders have any experience of poundland seed pots?

Cheers

G

Whilst not having bought any from there myself, I cannot speak from personal experience, but can say that having seen the postings on here from others, they have been quite pleased with him.

You'll just have to keep your fingers crossed that they have been stored correctly during the recent cold spell.

Have you tried sourcing loose seed spuds at your local nurseries?

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

There will be nothing wrong with the potatoes at Gordale. I was there last year and it was a great event. They have most of my varieties there so there will be alot of choice.
They sell them loose or prepacked.

I've read quite a number of posts where people have not been wow'd by the flavour of Pentland Javelin (not grown it myself, so this advice is worth precisely what you paid for it!)

Perhaps I should try a few then :)

We do Arran Pilot for first early - then are fast growing, and I have seen lots of posts with people ratign their flavour, not sure if they are as fast as Rocket (which I also read lots of people growing but I have not tried them) and Swift (which I don't remember reading anyone growing, but JBA says they are the fastest to mature but the way I read their description they sound tasteless!)

Wish I had read about Potato Open Days before I had bought my Seed Tubers - it would have been fun to grow one-or-two or this-and-that and taste-test

Hi all, just got back from Wilko's in Gravesend with me seed potatoes £2.98 for 3KG thought that was very good, they all look in very good condition.
Pentland Javelin
Maris Peer
Disiree
and a few Pink Fir Apples to try.
That will do me.
