I think it is something to do with DEFRA with the feeding of farm animals waste etc.
But i think i read somewhere that it wasn't good for them, but i also read that some people feed them left over pasta with melted cheese, which contains milk, but it changes it's chemical balance somewhere alone the line if cooked or used in foods.
Think that confuses things, but if someone with better knowledge comes along i'm sure will explain better

thats okay  :D just wondered if it was really bad for them or something.  Thanks!  I have given them a little bit of pasta but am lactose intolerent so don't eat cheese anyway!  Don't worry, I understood  ;)

Since it's been a bit nippy up here in the mornings, the OH has been making our girls porridge with a few mealworms and frozen brambles thrown in !.
I'm also finding, that as a couple of them are moulting it's ideal for getting a bit of chicken spice in 'em too.
They absolutely love their porridge, and come running when they see it arriving
It's all good in da wood

I mix layers pellets in the porridge and its gone before I know it!

I do it the other way round, add porridge to the layers pellets and some poultry spice that way they get what they need which is the pellets and a treat mixed in.

I doubt they can digest milk. Adult dogs and cats can't and people still feed it to them. There is now a school of thought that adult human beings shouldn't have milk as this leads to lactose intolerance. :)

chickens cannot digest the lactose sugars, so whilst the odd drop of live yoghurt may not seem to do them any harm regular feeding of this or milk will  :(
Staffies are softer than you think.

Have now added Poultry Spice & a couple of spoons of crushed egg shell to their porridge!
Haven't been giving it to them every morning now as it hasn't been that cold :)

It was a bit cold down here this morning so took our a couple of bowls of warm porridge with cod liver oil in it.  Blimey they damn near mobbed me for it.  Heard on the radio that sales of porridge oats are really taking off.  Must be all of us with our girls  :D :D

Poultry Spice is a mineral supplement which you add to their feed.
It help improve their condition & also helps them get over a moult.
You don't really need it if you are feeding your hens everything they need, but it won't hurt.
If you look at it as like humans taking vitamin tablets etc - it a similar thing for poulty, ducks Geese etc
