Well, when I say cleared.....! I mean mostly cleared! I have just planted 3 rows of garlic that I started in the greenhouse about 3 weeks ago, to my amazement they are alreay peeping out of the pots :-). We'll see how we get on but I'm feeling very optimistic !

Spent pretty much the whole day down the plot as I had the day off. Started off weeding the onion and garlic beds before making three raised beds from the scaffolding boards I bought.

I'm about to update my diary with pics if you wish to take a look.

Excellent news Caroline! This ought to go in the good news thread.  ;)

I hope the plot turns out to be a good one for you.

Decided today was the day to start the search for a bag of Lady Christl seed spuds, and also reminded myself to keep a look out for dumped pallets as I want to make some planters to use instead of bags of compost in the greenhouse.

Not only did I spot a skip with several pallets in en route to the garden centre, but the first garden centre I tried had the spuds in stock (2 years ago I went everywhere I could think of and still failed to find them!)

Stopped at the building site on the way back, got permission from the foreman to take the pallets, then loaded the extremely heavy items into the back of the trusty Jazz.

Things went a bit downhill at that point - I'd dumped the spuds behind the drivers seat which meant that the rear seat hadn't folded flat, which in turn meant that I couldn't push the driver's seat back into position to drive home (tested to see if I could drive with my knees level with my ears but alas, no - I had to take the pallets out, retrieve the spuds, and reload, all under the gaze of a white-haired old dear in the nearby house who was no doubt pondering which number to report me to!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Carried on clearing new half plot of weeds and grass. Scouted around for pallets to make desperately needed compost bin but not as fortunate as JayG as didn't find any. Reckon I'm about a third of the way through clearing the new half plot and as only had it since 1st January 2013, really happy with progress so far.
Dug up parsnips on first half plot and cleared remaining perpetual spinach that looked very sorry for itself.
Checked broad beans (they a under fleece so tricky to see what is happening) and they are coming along a treat. Never over-wintered broad beans so really chuffed.  ::)

Came home and built new staging for greenhouse and had a lovely cuppa and piece of cake.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

A lot of garden centre products are delivered on pallets (esp. compost) - the garden centre I went to today had a big bonfire and a stack of old pallets, so I dashed down to make sure they weren't all being burned!
The chap looking after the bonfire told me that they don't usually give them away because they get a small return for their disposal, but to ask at the office to see what they could do. Having already spotted some in a skip I didn't bother, but I got the impression I could have got some either for nothing or for a nominal sum.

Today I cleared more brambles and couch into 2 big garden waste bags. Met another new (to me) neighbour, had a natter, dumped the brambles at the tip so now have 2 empty bags to refill again tomorrow afternoon with yet more brambles, dried up couch, docks and bindweed...
