Dug over one of the beds today, not to cloggy and fairly easy going  ::) following that had a well deserved cuppa in the shed while reading new grow it magazine  :)

Cut back all the dead leaves on the strawberries at home and winter pruned the apple trees

Finally got down the allotment for a few months!!

Wasn't muddy at all so dug over a bed and the dug up all the gooseberry bushes and moved them to a new location, planted some onions (like I say it wasn't that wet as all our beds are raised, we are also trying out the lasagne beds which looked in pretty good condition)
Really hoping this year is better weather wise for growing!
Gained an allotment on the 19th June 08, 135ft by 40ft! eekk. Finally after 4 years it is looking like an allotment and not a jungle

We have 5 lovely hens in the garden, fish, 2 dogs and 2 canaries

First time at the plot for a number of weeks due to Christmas and a very nasty chest infection.   Dug some rather small leeks, a couple of small Savoy cabbages, some Tuscan Kale and one absolutely giant parsnip. Noted there are no sprouts on my sprouts, so will eat the tops instead.

Decided to use all the bits of wood and decking I've collected to try and make a base for a new shed, ended up making a frame about 3m by 7m  :D
guess I collected a lot more than I thought! Can't resist a bargain or a freebie so have ended up with space for a couple of deck chairs when the suns shining and the lemonade is flowing  ;)

oh and as always dug up another 30 or so Jerusalem artichoke tubers - I will beat them !

Well it was yesterday actually. Cut down my autumn fruited rasps to the ground. Gave a really hard pruning to some old looking gooseberry bushes I inherited from the previous allotment owner. They were overgrown and dense with old wood. Hopefully wont have killed them off in the process. Noticed the garlic starting to show.

This weekend in my 6 week old plot I edged 2 beds with bits of wood I have been piling up from the stuff that was dumped in my plot, I fought with (and won) 2 large bramble plants so only 4 or 5 more to go. I dragged 2 wooden pallets down ready to break up for more edging, I cleared another small area of knee-high stinging nettles and planted 2 rhubarb crowns - a present from a fellow allotmenteer who said he has been watching my progress with surprise! I think that being a 20-something female taking on weed patch/ mini jungle on my own raised a few eyebrows but I am proving them wrong. I can't wait to get back down there next weekend

First visit this year:

Dug some of my half-plot...soil turned easily and well.
Lifted a dozen lovely leeks
Found some very acceptable parsnips

Wandered home feeling so much better after fresh air and exercise.

The ground is still far too wet still to do any real digging. But managed to sort out 3 small raised beds, put some plastic over them to start warming them up.

I'll be sowing parsnip, early carrots and early peas in them next month or two.

Also spreaded out some manure over this year's leek bed.

First visit of 2013 and surprised to see my onions and garlic have started coming through nicely  :D

Weeded both the garlic and onion beds, pondered for a bit and went home.

Off next week so time to get the raised beds built if the rain stays off.

I had not finished tidying up stuff last year so I got out there today and lifted the last of the swedes and beetroot. The swedes were eaten today and I will to pickle the beetroot in the next few days.

Our beds have now been dug over and rotted manure put in. Don't know if it's too late to do that but its done now anyway.
