Hi, I have one as I put it on my winter festival list a few years ago and got it in my stocking.  I do use it, but I know you can make pots in a similar way using a jam jar.  I think they now make a larger size version too.

I also use toilet rolls because they are free and easy to stockpile for my sweet pea and broad bean seedlings!

I think they're a waste of money when you can do the same job without paying a tenner:

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I got a similar thing as a Chrissy present last year and have used it a lot. All my tomato and pepper seeds were germinated in paper pots.

As to whether or not I'd buy one, that's another matter. As a dyed in the wool Yorkshireman you can probably guess my answer.

My OH made me some to my size specifications from wood offcuts. I have different sizes to play with now  :)

This year we started nearly everything off in paper pots, made from the local freebie weekly magazine. A half page is exactly the right size! (It's the Wealden Advertiser, Angela, if you can get them in Hastings)!

The tube is a kitchen roll tube, and we get exactly eighteen per ice cream container. They're secured with one staple at the top, and a 'squidge' with the thumb at the bottom, with just the smallest of holes for drainage. I reckon we made well over 400 or so on days like those long rainy Saturday mornings...

Great for beans, peas, parsnips, salsify etc, but watch for roots getting too long before you plant them out!

One little thing - with the 'proper' wooden ones you have to do a twisting action to seal the base together and I find it causes real problems with my wrist after a while (although I do make a lot at one sitting!), I find a can both faster and easier on my wrists. I start everything off in paper pots, I love them. I use them for my annual and perennial flowers in the heated propagator fairly thickly sown, then prick out into individual paper pots to grow on. I do find you have to be careful with watering though as it is easy to over water them. :)

Aerosol cans are better because the dip in the bottom allows you to make a flat bottom.

A touch of prit-stick glue along the edge keeps the pot securely together.
