Has anyone had split carrots this year? I have just started to harvest my late crop and many are split, strange, I don't remember any dry spells in amongst the wet to course it.

I have always had brilliant crops of autumn king carrots. Splitting, as you say, can occur when they've been dry and then, at a later date, very well soaked... or am I getting confusalled with forking?

Anyway up... this year mine have been slow. When I next get to the plot I'll lift some to have a look and let you know.

We had a very dry summer the suddenly got a lot of rain during 2 weeks and this cause a lot of splitting in ours. Nothing you can do about it short of setting up mini tents all along the rows.

The UK has had a lot of rain this year, more than carrots care for so its inevitable to get splitting.

As I said, I don't remember any dry spell only rain, rain and more rain, but maybe my memory is failing, I certainly have not used the hose pipe once this year, Oh well, there is always next year.

I think that's what quite a few of us are saying about a huge number of things.
