Music garlic
« on: September 13, 2012, 13:52 »
I finally cracked this year and decided to try planting some Music garlic, along with Cristo, Thermidrome and Iberian White. Like an idiot I ordered the string of three, not realising they were for eating rather than planting, though I guess they're good for planting too. The cloves are nice and big but I have to say the bulbs themselves are no bigger than the Thermidrome and Iberian White bulbs I grew this year. A bit disappointing because I was expecting them to be really big.

Shokkyy I agree with you - I have found I get half a dozen big cloves rather than 10 or 12 smaller ones. It does make them easy to peel and even if the bulb is a bit small the cloves are still usable. I found with some other types small bulbs meant you had to roast the whole bulb or do a lot of faffing about peeling little cloves.
I seem to remember DD posting a picture last year of his Music garlic and they were huge - (perhaps he uses a Music amplifier?) - Sorry could not resist it!

Well, after hearing you lot go on (and seeing DDs amazing photo) I finally cracked and today received my 6 bulbs.  :D

They are about the size of a shop-bought bulb (I'm guessing they've had a bad year too) but have about 4 nice big cloves per bulb.

I'm really looking forward to trying these and may well munch one later.  :tongue2:

If I get anything close to DDs I shall be a happy bunny!  ::)

A quick question... I harvested French Thermidor and they did not bulb - just stayed round like onions.. Can I plant these this season and will they make cloves?

We did Music this year, too.  Smaller bulbs than I'd hoped for, but they got rust, so I'm not too disappointed. There are plenty for us and enough to plant again this year.

Don't despair about the size - it's been that kind of year!

Just keep singing to them  ;)  Or play classic...... :)
