which way is garden facing

Sorry to drag this back to the original question, but it's one that has puzzled me for a while.
If I look out of my back door and longways down my garden ( roughly speaking ) the sun rises to the right and sets at the left. So my Q is, do I have a North facing garden ? Because if I stand at the end of the garden looking back up to the house...it's South facing - and I know I've left myself open there for a bit of ribbing, but it does baffle me.
...and as a supplementary Q, am I right to plant my veggies in an East/West line ? or should it be North/South ?

North (or south facing) usually refers to the slope of the garden or perhaps where it is heavily shaded (e.g. by the house).

runner beans with the rise and fall of the ( east to west ) of the sun ,, ground veggies it doesnt matter
