Easiest thing to do, if you don't have a map, is to download google earth and find you house/garden or whatever on the aerial pics and slide it under the little compass at the right hand side and then you'll know for sure which bit faces where.

I think you answered yourself there, where the sun sets that would be usually  West. :wink:

"Usually"  :?:

Presumably when it sets in the north, it's unusual. On my planet, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

 :lol:  :lol:  :lol:

I noticed you were around a few minutes ago, so I'm giving it to you now. I might have chosen the wrong word, I probably should have said roughly or aprox., or thereabouts, but I'm not having you laughing at me and grannie, when we are actually right and you are not.

The planet I'm on has got a tilt, you see (I don't like going into this as I learnt about this a long time ago, I might get me details wrong, someone will correct me, if I do, I'm sure, but I'm also sure we are right and you are not).

The Sun DOES NOT SET in the West, it sets in the west roughly. Something like between the spring and autumn equinox in the NW and between the autumn and spring equinox in the SW ( I just hope it's correct at least for Northern hemisphere).

And I imagine it moves gradually through, day by day, so you prob get one day or so when it sets in the West.

Also imagine, it would depend where you are coming from, and I don't mean observers of black hole just long and lat.

I might remember me details wrong, but Grannie and me are right. You not allowed to laugh. ( Sticks tongue out and makes silly face) 8)  :lol:

:)

I knew what you both meant, of course... but the way it looked, "generally" and "usually", made me giggle. I mean, I "generally" shop locally, but sometimes I get my tins from Sainsbury's. I "usually" go to the allotment, but sometimes I go to the pub.

So, you see, if you're seeing the sun set in the north, or the east, I'm intriegued :D The word I'd use is roughly - as in "the sun sets in a roughly westerly direction", because this implies always but not exactly. Generally and usually imply that sometimes it sets in the west, sometimes not.
