Mold/fungus on Cucumber stem
« on: July 01, 2012, 17:31 »
I noticed that there as some mold growth either at the point where I have harvested cucumbers (grown in the greenhouse) or where the mini cucs. have rotted and failed to develop. I have had a pretty good harvest so far of mini cucumbers from this plant. These wounds are therefore not at the base of the plant.

I wiped the mold off and the stem seems to 'bleeding' a clear liquid. To help the wounds heal I have dusted on some green sulphur powder. From my very limited viticultural knowledge I know that sulphur can be used as a sort of anitiseptic.

This solution was really just a stab in the dark. Can anyone confirm whether I might have done the right thing or whether I have doomed the plant to an early death!

Most sulphur powders are now illegal to use (since the end of last year).

Hopefully someone else will know what else, if anything, you need to do with your cucumbers.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
