I have used a pallet stood up on end with weed fabric across the back to grow strawberrys in this year as an experiment, I used two pallets to make my planter as the first was the basis of the planter and then the slats were removed to fill in the gaps between the slats of the first pallet making a solid front then I used a circular cutter and drill to make the holes in the front and placed my strawberry plants in after filling with compost.
I have approx ten strawberry plants in the planter and it seems to be working fine so far and we have had poor weather so far in the north east.

This is similar to the way some gardeners keep their strawberries clean and off the soil - weed suppressant cloth is stretched over a frame work and the strawberries are planted through holes in the cloth.

The same method could be used using these pallets.
