That would be just fine for the leafy things like spinach and various lettuces. The calabrese (I think that's what they are) would get too big I think and dominate everything else

It looks very neat and a really good idea. I have a few pallets knocking about .....  :)

I wonder if the same design would be good for keeping strawberries off the soil?

Only thing I would worry about is that it would be a great hiding place for slugs and snails as I do not use pellets.

Hmm true. I had thought that slugs wouldnt be a problem as the soil is flush with the pallet boards but they could burrow under the pallet struts and hang out there, coming out to play at night.

I had come across this idea which i am planning to use for strawberries.  I use pallets as fencing and thought about turning them into useful planting space.  My thought was to plant them up flat on the ground, then lift them and attach to fence posts (securely as they will weigh a ton once full).

I like this idea but it would need to go up against the side of a shed or wall, not suitable for my use but still a good idea:  http://lifeonthebalcony.com/how-to-turn-a-pallet-into-a-garden/ or http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GdfwhGdZ194/TwsK0Q7COKI/AAAAAAAABoM/h1zLJvWRpPY/s1600/pallet_rect540.jpg

This is probably the option I will go for, as it means some wind and sun will get through the fence: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SqreiDEY0lE/T7myy4ZnAtI/AAAAAAAAEIk/hY6Jtbgf0uA/s1600/tumblr_m2n0ghpNeu1qzt7kko1_1280.jpg

I wish I had room for this though:

Pallet gardening already in frugal living forum with a few reservations.
Taken over neglected veg garden at new home. Enemy number 1 Ground Elder. Then there is the furry terror - bunnies - to contend with!
Made a start have beds established but moved in too late for serious planting. We shall see what 2015 brings.

brilliant links angel...some excellent ideas for growing in small areas.

I suppose the fact that slugs can hid under the planks of wood can put some off trying this but slugs will hide under anything they find. If we didnt try an idea because we worried about slugs then we wouldnt get very far with growing lovely fruit n veg

(for the slugs to nibble on)  :D

My slugs hide under a couple of bin lids near my frog pond - and they are never seen again!

It does say that they staple or anil garden cloth (weed suppresant) underneath the pallet, so if the weed suppresant was stapled up the sides too, you may not get so many slugs climbing up the sides of the pallets.

It's a good idea though!
