peppers, propogators and polytunnels
« on: March 24, 2012, 11:34 »
This is the first year that I have had all three. My peppers have germinated and are in my new vitapod propagator. Outside I have a raised 8' x 4' bed with a PVC fitted cover. My question is when can I move the peppers from propagator to polytunnel. The vitapod is a large propagator with a height extension so size wont be a problem. The seed packet says move outside in early summer. How much earlier can i move them under my cover?

Well, they need a regular temp of about 15C or above, so outside - even under poly - is a no no until end April/beginning of May which is when tender stuff can go out into an unheated greenhouse. (Subject of course to local weather conditions )

Why not invest in a maximum/minimum thermometer so you can keep an eye on temperatures under the polycover.

Excellent idea. Should I get one with a hygrometer as well?

Grubbypaws, could you do me a favour please if you get chance?  Could you post a pic of your PVC enclosed raised bed?  I was thinking of doing the same thing and was after ideas.

Cheers

Here are pictures of a 4' x 4' bed. Mine is twice the size but looks the same except it has got 3 hoops not 2.
