Nope - got something else on. Might even be Good Friday this year as it's about right for us!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Yes. i have a row dug, compost added and waiting. it is tradition ! Putting in red duke of york and ballydoon.

they say it could frost tomorrow night though . . . . . Wonder will they take that shock ?

It's not the frosts you get whilst they're underground that are the problem, it's the ones you get once they've emerged.

Having been caught before, I prefer to wait a bit. They do recover, but it can set them back more than if you'd waited a bit.

I agree with DD.  My first and second earlies, planted around now, got singed by frost last year, despite protection following a frost warning.  The affect on the yield wasn't huge and only hit 2 tubers, but it was noticeable that these had a lower yield.

I will be planting a bit later this year.

I hear it's a bit of a tradition and I know a lot of my lotty neighbours will be planting their spuds tomorrow, but after reading all the advice, I've decided to leave it a week or two more. I planted my spuds at the beginning of March last year (not really knowing any better), I think I was lucky as it was so mild - not sure we'll get the same mild weather this spring!  8)
Acquired a third of a plot in January 2011 which was extended to three quarters in December 2011. Managed by myself and my 6 year old son.

I note, in the main, that it's only the folk "darn sarf" that are doing it.

True - my first earlies go in today which give me time to harvest them and then get leeks into the same patch of ground in time for a good leek harvest.

I will be far too busy celebrating to think about spuds,  may eat a few though!  Hope to get some planting done next week, that's if the effect of the guinness has worn off!

There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

I decided to hold off today . it was -1 here last night and due to go -2 tonight with snow on hills tomorrow. I think it would be too much of a shock for the spuds that have been chitting indoors. Beautiful day today though. :)

Like me, you mean

First earlies went in today, but they are well down and fleece is at the ready for when they show through, in case i don't have time to earth up, or the earth has been used up earthing up, if you see what I mean  :D
