A few Q about my spuds... please!
« on: June 06, 2015, 14:40 »
Are these Desiree spuds? I know these are early ones, thats all I know because the label has been blown away, I put early in the front, mids (yep in the middle) and late at the back, also are they meant to be this small? or is that the idea of early's? you kind of get new spuds, I dont mind the small size, but just wondering if they do get bigger, they taste nice anyway, they are kind of waxy and creamy
Sorry the pick has no scale, there about 2 1/2 inch the biggest one,  this is from one plant, thanks

They certainly look like Desiree - but Desiree are main crop and would certainly be much bigger if you left them in til the foliage starts to die back  ;)

What varieties did you plant?

I had this year

2 of Wilko Seed Potato K.Edward Maincrop 2kg
1 of Wilko King Edward Seed Potatoes 2kg
1 of Wilko Seed Potatoes Desiree 2kg
1 of Wilko Seed Potatoes Pentland Javelin 2kg

I think the Pentland Javelin are early? so it could be them???

They are definitely Desiree.
Pentland J are a light brown or creamy white and King Edwards are medium brown.
King Edwards do have small blotches of red/pink around the eyes.

So that's 8Kg of main crop (4kg King Edwards and 2 kg Desiree) and 2 kg of earlies.

Yes Mum, but it wont be enough, but you can only grow so much of one thing, or I may as well turn it into a potato filed
