Awww sorry to hear about the voice Mrs B!  Not good when you are a teacher by trade!  But at least hubby can't moan about his chatterbox wife eh?

Actually, we gave up raising so many chickens when I turned 61.  4 years ago we had up to 400/500 here at one time including the turkeys.  Long story that one though!   :(

Wow! you must have a small holding!
We keep saying that when the lottery turns up trumps that is what we would like to do. I would love to have lots more chickens than our 10. Fell in love with loads of beautiful chickens on holiday in Devon when we went to  a place that bred rare and unusual breeds of chicken. Hubby had to stop me smuggling out some of the bantams!

Actually, I thought about trying my luck with smuggling out a turkey chick when we visited Kelly's turkey farms where we get our Christmas turkey from.  But the guy shwing us round told me they were all counted!
My hub can be mean! Iwould like a pig and a goat as well as the chickens and an alpaca. I believe they are good fox deterents! But he is adament that they wouldn't fit in the garden!

Ahhh, so you are in Essex?   lol.  Kelly's is where we get our turkey day olds from.  We used to raise them for selling at Christmas, but this year Brian is only buying enough for our freezer, and one American chap who has one for Thnksgiving.

More of a mini holding really.  half an acre, but its surprising what you can fit in!

Anyway, we are digressing away from the posts subject!  Sorry everyone for hijacking post!

Our best layer is Pacha, a white foghorn leghorn. I think she has missed about 4 days since last summer.
She is a very slight bird, but lays big white eggs - approx 70-80g

Not our Pacha - she has a much bigger comb, but here's a pic

We had a white leghorn for 3 years and she hardly missed a day laying, even in the winter when the others would stop and they were big eggs for such a dainty girl.

question
