hi there all, hope you had a good Christmas and new year, i have been using this site and it has been very useful.

i have few chickens 5 girls and 1 young naughty boy  :D, they are all healthy and 2 of them are in lay and 1 of them is laying fertile eggs, well i hope they are lol, seen mr being naughty :) i have been using apple cider vinegar for past a week miss a day i think. do i keep on using it nearly every other day? does it affect the eggs in anyway?

i have used verm-x as the male had some verm problem but after 1 treatment for 3 days he got in good shape, does it verm-x affect the laying in anyway would it stop them laying? if they keep on laying are we ok to eat the eggs, does worming have any affect in the breeding process as she's laying fertile eggs and may sit on them after sometime.

what is the difference between Flubenvet and verm-x as they both kill the worms, i have only used verm-x for 1 treatment about 3 months ago or so, do i use both or just 1 of them, i dont see any signs of illness so far.

any advice would be appreciated :)

There is no evidence to say that Vermex kills worms. The only 'safe' way to worm is to use Flubenvet or other licensed wormer. Vermex could be used as a preventative but there are still no guarantees. Personally I would not bother with it. There are many on this site that will agree with this.  Just because you cannot see worms in their droppings does not mean they don't have worms. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!

I agree with Sassy.  If you scour this website the consensus is if you want to be worm free then use flubenvent.  Its dead simple in the mash and no egg withdrawl either

I'll third that - Flubenvet every time, verm-x doesn't work.
Staffies are softer than you think.

You can get it on line or your vet can prescribe it.  This link will give you further information on measuring it into the food etc. http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=4348.0

You could also buy the Marriages pellets which already have the Flubenvet in.

Leaving feed in the run can encourage vermin especially at this time of year. The chooks do not eat or drink once they have gone to bed anyway. :)
