Tidied up the strawberry beds ,some of them are flowering.

No frost forecast yet so no need for fleece,I hope.

Made some strawberry planters from old bread baskets lying around.

Weeded the broad beans and planted the "Extras" in the (not too many) spaces, and replaced poorly germinated specimens as well.

Started weeding the Jermor Shallots.

The chick peas have germinated in trays- hoorah.

All peas have to be germinated in trays - mice very organised!

Weeded Broad beans and planted  a second batch of Shallots a little late I know but I am sure they will be fine. Met a very nice guy who has just been allocated the plot next door but one to mine.
Retired but never short of a job.

Only spent 1.5hours on the bus tonight due to another accident, but was determined to get to the allotment, so brought the horses in and got about 30mins in trimming back the hawthorn hedging - nearly there! Then the rain started....
Everything spotty....

Finally managed to get some seeds into the plot today.

Did a half row each of beetroot, carrots and parsnips.  Planning on sowing the other half in 2 or 3 weeks time.  Hope the birds don't pinch the seeds.

Checked the strawberries on sons quarter plot which was given by another plot holder. They are really nice people at the allotment.  One of them is flowering nicely.  They really need netting up now.

Was going to do some more but it was getting dark so will go again tomorrow hopefully if the rain holds off.

Was thinking of planting some peas but after what people are saying I think I might start them in pots first.

Hoping to plant some lettuce and cabbage tomorrow.  My net tunnel arrived today so can put that on straight away.

Kept company with 10 hens!
Planted curry plant, flat leaved parsley (good for Greek food) and red cabbage plants.

Did a lot of chatting with other plotholders too - the chatting can take up more time than the gardening!

Came away a bit disheartened as the baby woke after 40 minutes weeding. I covered my peas with fleece and checked under carrot fleece. Nothing but a few bits of bindweed popping up.  ::)

Hopefully tomorrow with be a better day for it, I want to get my potatoes in, and sow some parsnips, leeks and beetroot. I've got various bits of plastic in the shed to make into little polytunnels.

fitted the netting on the old polytunnel frame, should keep the sparrers off the peas and beans, and cabbages later  :D

dug in loads of well rotted poo, added the last of the spuds, then - having washed my paws of course - popped into the chippie outside the lottie gates for chips and curry sauce.  :tongue2: :D going back to the lottie in a minute to sort out the brassica netting..
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

Planted 4 rows of spuds. Picked purple sprout, rhubarb and overwintered beetroot.

Just finished stewing the rhubarb with a bit of sugar. Absolutely beautiful.

Took today off for allotment work as having to go to visit poorly inlaws for the weekend...

So planted 4 currant bushes, prepared for 2 more when they arrive and then a line of PFA spuds.

Stripped a kids swing for using as a runner bean frame.

Then work got rained off..
Now a member of the 10 Ton club.... 2013  harvested 588 Kg from 165 sq mt..

Popped up the plot for a little while. Covered carrot bath with an old net curtain, hoed round a few things (probably in vain as it's started raining), cut some edges (about a third of the long side of my bigger veg bed) and picked some dandelion flowers, dead nettle, plantain, sage and goosegrass which the bunnies are currently enjoying with much gusto.

At home Ive put twenty sweetcorn out to chit and thinned some celeriac seedlings.

Collected a van load of 'moist' (horsey wee soaked) straw to use as a mulch over our spuds,  not going to earth up.   Hoping this straw will suffice and we don't get too many green spuds.    ;)

I'll pop down to the allotment tomorrow and I'l expect to find the badgers and foxes have been digging in there for the brandling worms.              Cheers,    Tony.
