Why does anyone want to either steal or destroy pumpkins >:(.  Mine was squashed by someone at this time last year :(.  I didn't bother growing one this year because of it.  I wouldn't mind so much, but I was growing it (actually 2) for the local childrens hospital for halloween.  One of the other blokes on the allotment has even put a sign on to say that's what he's growing his for, but they still get trampled on :(

I'm very sorry to hear that - I've a couple of Guatamalan Blue Bananas that are doing very nicely and I'd hate them to walk. Worst we have had this year on the allotments is a barrow load of onions walking - I hope I don't catch anybody stealing as I'm really not sure how I would react.

Makes me mad  >:(  this kind of thing.  Feel for you I do.

The population of the Isle of Man is 84,655 (July 2011 est.)

Age profile -

0-14 years: 16.6% (male 7,362/female 6,664)
15-64 years: 65.2% (male 27,752/female 27,466)
65 years and over: 18.2% (male 7,003/female 8,408) (2011 est.)

You can probably presume that the culprit is not 65+.  Worth getting the press to pick up on the story?   You never know.   If they have stolen one show pumpkin, they have probably stolen other prize veg / fruit...

Good luck!

Regards, H. Wainthropp  :)
Now then, I am a very pleasant lad from York.  I have a decent half plot on Holgate allotments.

I know what you mean, i started noticing one or two caulis, cabbages going missing over a month or so, then it was every week, my plot and two others are open, plus my brothers next door, he's had eggs going missing, they all now looks like Stag Luft III, we've had nothing going missing since

Horrid isn't it when this happens? We are sure our peas were taken as these were at the front of the allotment, near to the central walk way. Do have a sneaky feeling its one of the new lottie holders - and before anyone jumps up and down on me for suspecting new comers - there is a particular new comer who gets most upset when they aren't allowed to borrow peoples equipment or allowed to use the water tap when they choose!

Wouldn't make the same mistake next year, will be planting them at the top of the allotment - out of reach.

It's bad news when you can't trust fellow plot holders. My plot is like Fort Knox these days but people still manage to get on somehow. Latest theft - the end off my hosepipe

That''s awful you have my sympathies.  When we were on holiday, all the ripe plumbs were taken from the tree, not one left and that's in our garden >:(
