sticky eye

Hi, hope someone can help. We are very new to chicken keeping and are loving having them. Have just noticed that one of the girls has a closed swollen eye with a slight discharge. :cry: She is down in the dumps and not eating much. Have bathed the eye with boiled water and she didn't seem to mind me touching it. Is there anything else we can do :?: Any advice very much appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forums reactiveprism

Keep bathing your chooks eye, cold weak tea is good, dilute tea tree, even optrex. If it doesn't improve (or gets worse) some antibiotics from your vet may be needed.

Did you check there is nothing lodged in her eye ?

Borax crystals from the chemist is ok too

Thanks very much for that. Couldn't see anything in her eye but didn't want to poke about too much. Will try the tea/optrex/teatree option. Thanks again.
