I have a shed so mine was pretty cheap ( I may have already mentioned this) in my mind timber has a more natural look and so easier to fit into a garden/allotment surrounding. Timber is also easier to extend don't think you can with an eglu?, mites and things I've never had to much problem with, painting the cracks with paraffin seems to kill the little devils, powder regular etc

Timber will also breath a bit being a natural product and also for any one with an ecological conscience is carbon neutral.

Thats one thing that worries me about the eglu/cube do you get any condensation ?

IMO if you treat your chickens regularly then the redmite will snuff it when they move onto the chickens.

 
not had them yet, what do you put on the chooks to make redmite snuff it ?

I only read this again today - Jac, you asked which I'd gone for ages ago,  wooden or eglu - I went for wooden coop, but it's far more a pretty garden-freindly one rather than a super-practical allotment one! Basically, I think it looks prettier than an eglu, is a good size for what I want, and was cheaper and should be jsut as easy to manage... I hope... has only been a week though!

I think Aunty forgot a couple of pros and cons:

Con:
- They're made of plastic, which isn't very planet-friendly

Pro:
- Keeping chickens for nervous first timers is easier with either the Eglu or the Cube.  It has some great features to make life easier.

I made our chicken house, and picked up a couple of design elements from the Eglu.  When the wife gets round to painting it I'll post up some photos - I'm sure our girls would like their home to look spick'n'span before it reaches the public domain.

Actually, the Eglu can be 100% recycled. Also, all of the Eglu, that is made from plastic is recycled poly-carbonate plastic. The Eglu is actually quite ecological. I hope to get one soon!
