That sounds perfect for them.

I got my original birds from Eglu.  But I've purchased locally since.

so since the birds from omlet are about 10 or so weeks of age are they all definatly hens or could i still possibly get a rooster by mistake?
I live in Santa Monica, CA
and am dying for some pet
chickens and an eglu.

Omlet birds are usually older that that, about 16 weeks, and they will all be hens (as far as anyone can tell).

Having been given three hens a few weeks ago and a little wooden hen house "to see if we realy wanted to keep hens"....I have to say WE LOVE KEEPING HENS!    So......yesterday we ordered an Eglu cube....We have to wait until the end of May for delivery as the demand has gone crazy...is there anybody left who does NOT keep hens????????????

We are going to get three more hens once the Eglu arrives... we have one Pekin at the moment and my husband insists we have another because they are so cute (he realy must get out more).

The hens are allowed out all day to wander and trash a very big garden so 6 should have plenty of space.

Bye the way aunt Sally does this mean I have to start making cake?

as we come closer to getting our chickens
i find myself wondering much more.

firstly- did you clip your chickens wings?

lastly (for now)- do your chickens really
return to their eglu/coops at night?

Yes I have clipped the girls wings to stop themflying out of the garden.  (Although I think the may be too heavy now to clear the 6 ft fences.)

They certainly do go back to the eglu/coop at dusk, but I make sure they are shut in their run before that because foxes are about ell before it gets dark !

I had to do that torch in the Eglu trick last night Aunt Sal.  They wouldn't go to bed. I took the food away and thought they'd go in but they didn't. The torch trick in the Eglu worked a treat, the flipping battery died though so had to go traipsing back up to the house to get a fresh one     :D

Aunt Sally

Looking at the pic of your Eglu, I like the idea of the sloped roof does that have netting sides in addition to the Eglu run or is it a roof on legs

It's just a roof on legs CE.

The roof hinges up out of the way and the legs are in fence post sockets so they can be easily removed.  The eglu and run can then be moved away so the soiled bark can easily be replaced - EASY  :D

Roosting Perches
I have a question for the Eglu owners. Do the Eglu and Cube have perches for the chooks to roost on or do they just roost on the floor? I have heard that it is "healthier" for chickens to roost on perches but I'm not sure what the reason for that would be.

Also as a newbie chicken owner a Cube seems like a huge investment, but I think i'd like more than two birds...

(edited for typo)
