Can anyone tell me how to determine that peas are ready to pick. I've just picked my first few - only selecting what felt like full pods. On opening them I find some are full of nice sized peas and some only have absolute tiddlers. This despite the pods looking and feeling the same.

So whats the secret?

"Pull them off the 'vine' hold them up to the light and if all seems full, well there you go.  If not full, glue back onto the vine ! ! !   Sorry about that,  it's nearly time for my medication.

That's just one of the trials you have to endure, but the smaller the sweeter.    Cheers,   Tony.

The smaller the more invisible more like.

Gently squeeze the pod, if there's some "give" in it, they're not ready. In time you'll do it by instinct, judging the weight of the pod in your hand without thinking.

can I jusy "hop" on  this thread and say to DD that I followed one of your postings about digging a trench and chucking the peas in well I did that and those plants are nearly as big as those that I carefully planted 2 weeks earlier!!   :blink:
