peas and beans question
« on: May 15, 2011, 09:35 »
Hi, i have my peas under fleece at the moment but its just lay over them am i ok to remove it now? i live in the north west and we seem to be getting all the rain at the moment no real frost.
also i am hardening off my French beans when will be safe to pop them out too?
is there a link on how to support these? they are not the dwarf variety.

thanks

Peas will be fine, I always wait until June before putting beans out.

When you say the beans are not dwarf ones, are they climbers? If so just the same way as you'd do runner beans.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

thanks DD yes the beans are climbers.
i planted my peas a foot wide trench at 3" staggered throughout with 2" between rows is this too close? should i thin them out a bit?
(think i misread the packet)
also ive just popped the beans in the cold frame and intend to take a few week to harden off so it should just about be June 8)

You should get away with that, have to go out now, but I'll try & post the recommended spacing later.

The birds don't go for the beans. I just through any old netting over them, even ripped stuff, as long as the holes are not big enough for pigeons.
