Egg wash?
« on: May 11, 2011, 13:41 »
I bought some egg wash the other day solely to clean really pooey eggs that i sometimes get as i know you arent supposed to wash them as then the bugs go through the shells.  But after reading the bottle 'egg wash' seems to be for washing eggs before they go into an incubator.  Can i use it to clean eggs?  or is it just the same as using water a big no no

It's not for general egg washing. The 'don't wash' rule is best for eggs-to-eat (unless you wash them just before taking into kitchen). Dried poo will brush off - this is how commercial cleaning is done - so dry them and use a nail brush. Don't brush too hard as you will physically push the poo through the shell. Don't panic about the odd bug if the eggs are well cooked; if in doubt use them for baking.
