Growing Recomendations ?
« on: May 11, 2011, 09:53 »
I have a small plot of land with raised beds, cold fram and a green house.
All these are full with various things.

BUT
i have a steel fence all the along the back of the plot and it looks quite bare and i was wondering if a could grow anything worth while IN POTS and let it / them grow up the fence.

I would prefer veg or fruit if i'm honest but anything you guys can recomend then i'll be happyy to consider.

cheers,

Tomatoes, sunflowers (erm you don't say how high the fence is, so this idea might not be good ::)), sweet peas, honeysuckle...... :)

Runner beans, and/or peas

Which direction does the fence face? and is it quite stable as you could probably train a few fruit trees along it, or a kiwi or two.

And even a few sweetpeas for colour- and to attract more bees!
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....

Is it a 'solid' fence or just wire? If solid I'd be a bit wary of growing anything actually on the fence, in sunny weather it may get too hot and 'burn' the plants

Tomatoes & cucumber/gherkins, and small squashes would do well, as long as you can water them enough

Hi all,

Sorry for the late reply - been on a little break.

So a little more info.
The fence is about 7 foot high. It is one of them steel fences with the sharp points on the top.
It faces south so pretty much gets the sun all day really.

I like the idea of attracting more bees - just for pollinating my squashes etc.
