Ash  does not have pointy buds though they are late into leaf (we have an ash tree).

I am betting on a beech, although the ones round here have just opened their leaves this tree could be in a colder spot.

I'm with gilly - I reckon Beech, especially with the orangey-red buds & the smooth bark
