One small step for man. . .
« on: March 25, 2011, 18:30 »
. . a huge leap for my DH!
When I told him a couple of weeks ago we were getting chickens he was NOT impressed and moaned non-stop.
This week he has mentioned the impending chickens' arrival every day and today wanted to know exactly what time they were arriving tomorrow. Then he quizzed me about how many eggs they are likely to lay and said;
"Well, I don't think 3 chickens are going to be any good. I think we need more!"
 :ohmy:  :D

Well we've had a tiny baby step in the right direction!  I was called out of town suddenly a couple of nights ago - my poor wee nephew (just 1 year old) had a seizure and was admitted to hospital.  My sister called and asked if I could come to be with her.  Of course I could!   :ohmy:

So food and water was topped up and off I rode on Hubby's scooter for a 125km journey.  Hubby was out of town at the time in the car so that was the only form of transport available!

I got home last night after 24 hours away (nephew is fine and back home).  Hubby had got home an hour before me, just before sunset, and counted heads to make sure all the chickens were accounted for.  Then he found the grain container and threw a few handfuls in the run.  He said the poor chickens were starving! (In fact they still had that exact same grain in their feeder... but you know chickens  ;))

I'm thrilled that he even thought of them after a couple of long days working away from home.  :)

He still declined to be shown where their feeders and waterers are (in the coop).  I think he's scared I might expect him to take some responsibility.  I wouldn't dream of it.  :lol:

Given his hands-off approach I think I could probably sneak another couple of chickens in there and he wouldn't notice for 6 month or so...  :tongue2:

I very lucky, I mention I'm thinking about getting a few more chooks and OH says when can we go and look for them :D

It's only taken 20 years to train him ;)

I have been looking for a couple of Orpington banties and phoned O/H to say I thought I had found them and it just happens to be 10 mins from were he is working down South.  Not a problem, he would pick them up on way home (I knew he would fall for it  :lol:). Unfortunateley, it's a breeding pair so the search goes on.  :unsure:
