My hen is poorly - any ideas?
« on: September 05, 2010, 13:01 »
We're very new to this and one of our hens is poorly and we (me and my 10 year old daughter) wondered if anyone has any ideas?
We have a Bovans Amber called Freckles who has had her first moult and didn't lose an awful lot of feathers (probably about half of them) but who is now sitting in the house on her own and generally looking pretty fed up.  She will still eat corn and is drinking water but that's about it.  She spends her day generally just sitting....we've checked for mites and her nose is fine.  We've put Apple Cider Vinegar in her water and poultry spice on the food but she just seems really listless.  Her crop is fine.  Her other 3 friends are all fine and well.  She has stopped laying and her poos are really tiny and bright yellow.  Any help or advice would be really welcome.  Thanks! :(

Hi - Is she sitting always in the same place?  Or maybe even in one of the nesting boxes?

All the best

Hi, one of our chooks has exactly the same problem but spends most of the day just sitting in a nest box. Her comb and wattle is a very light pink instead of red. She hardly moves at all and only drinks when I move her to the water dish.

Looks pretty terminal but any advice would be appreciated.
Another fine day for drinking French wine
